William Furlow, Esq., M.S. is an intellectual property attorney and science & technology strategist who helps founders and venture-backed companies transform high-impact innovations into scalable, defensible businesses. At EarlyWare Ventures, he leverages his unique blend of legal expertise, technical depth, and federal sector insight to guide IP-first startups through the critical stages of protection, compliance, and commercialization.
William’s practice spans the full lifecycle of intellectual property development—patent and trademark prosecution, copyright and software transactions, licensing, regulatory strategy, and federal technology transfer. His experience advising the U.S. Departments of Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services informs his ability to navigate dual-use technologies, national security concerns, and complex regulatory landscapes.
With deep subject-matter fluency in life sciences, artificial intelligence, and emerging scientific platforms, William supports EarlyWare’s portfolio companies by crafting strategic IP portfolios, identifying freedom-to-operate risks, and negotiating high-value licensing and venture deals. He is particularly skilled at aligning technical innovation with scalable legal infrastructure to accelerate product-market fit and downstream investability.
A regular contributor to the American Bar Association’s Science & Technology Law Section, William writes and presents on topics including AI governance, dual-use innovation, and commercialization strategy. His work reflects a core belief: that defensible IP and regulatory foresight are critical to the long-term success of deep-tech ventures.
William holds a J.D. from Emory University School of Law, an M.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Georgetown University, and a B.S. in Biology with Honors from The University of Texas at Tyler. In Fall 2025, he will begin a part-time degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering to further deepen his technical expertise.
